Sebastian Shaw was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to an impoverished family. Disgusted with the social level he was born into, Shaw decided to take control of his own destiny. With his superb business skills, he was able to acquire for himself millionaire status while still in his early twenties, disclaiming any relationship to his birth-family from then on. Soon after, using the new means at his disposal, he created what eventually became Shaw Industries. While on a leisure trip to Hong Kong, he met the woman who would become his future wife. After being married to Sebastian for several years, and having had a child, Mrs. Shaw suddenly and tragically passed away. Eventually, Sebastian returned to the United States, re-establishing his base of operations in New York city after two unexpected pieces of news reached him: he had been invited into the prestigious Hellfire Club-- perhaps he could find new allies as powerful as he there--, and he discovered increasingly obvious news of the existence of other mutants besides himself. Perhaps he could also find ways to use the other members of his own race to his advantage. Perhaps...

Sebastian possesses the normal human strength of a man his age,
