Born originally as an only child, Rwylann tended to be spoiled in her younger years -- and perhaps this accounts for some of her "I'm better than you" attitude in her older age. As she grew older, and out of her toddler years, a younger brother was born, and it was shown that her parents tended to ignore the older child for the younger.
She was still raised well, and never went hungry, or without proper attire. She just... tended to have less attention than a child under 10 should have. She became a rebel of sorts at a young age. Not really the sort to be entirely bad or "evil", she just preferred to "go against the code" and had her own way of doing things.
She grew up in an area where the kids and people tended towards things such as sports than computers: which is perhaps why she turned to such things. At a young age, she already was exceeding the knowledge that even some adults had in the usage of such equipment. At the age of 12, she found herself tending to stay upon the computer for longer periods of time: lost in a fantasy world of RPGs. This set her into her intrest in "new age" things, such as dream interpretation, and tarot.
Around the same time, she also began to find an intrest in the single sport that she liked, and was good at: snowboarding. Every chance she got, she went to a ski resort nearby, and 'boarded, honing her skill at the sport, until she was the best out of the people she knew, at speed and tricks. During one visit, her board ended up snapping, and she found herself stranded in the snow; alone. The need for warmth, and the fact that she has a vivid imagination, sent her thinking about all the fantasy books she's read, and how some magic users can shoot fire from their fingertips... Thinking she had nothing to lose while she waited for someone to find her (with a broken leg, she wasn't going anywhere), she decided to try it, if only to keep herself amused...
To her complete shock, and amusement (of course) she found it worked: and she melted the snow around her, as well as singed some of her clothes. She was an avid reader of scifi and fiction... And when one is so buried in such a "fantasy" world, one... does have a tendancy to accept such things themselves, even though Rwylann often found herself unbelieving, and untrusting of these powers. Knowing that such an ability was not... socially accepted, to put it lightly, she did her best to hide these powers from everyone else, but secretly investigated them more. If she has to have them, why not find out their potential?
One time she was caught. Her school had a fountain, and it being after school was out as she was waiting for a ride, she decided to lift a ball of water from the pool. A teacher walked by, catching her... The water quickly fell from the ball she had it in, and splashed into the water. The teacher, in a state of shock, demanded an explanation... A lot of stammering, and confusion, ended up with the half hearted "explanation" that she'd just dropped something into the water accidentally, and the wind may have made it appear that way.. The teacher never quite trusted her again.
Shortly after her 14th birthday, her father was transferred with his company to their base in New York City. She found herself plunked within new surroundings. She was placed in public school, but soon found herself constantly within detention due to her rash actions. Her mother, thinking it best, took her out and decided to have her "home schooled". Though this perhaps was not the best education, it has been getting Rwy along, so she is about level with others her age.
