History:

Carol Susan Jane Danvers was the last of 3 children born to the Danvers family in a little suburb of Boston, Mass. She was the only girl born into a family of men. As such, she was quite the tomboy growing up. She constantly competed with her brothers who viewed and treated her like one of the boys. Carol's father, on the other hand, was not as accepting. She definitely did not fit his expectation of how his daughter should think and act. The pair clashed constantly. In an act of defiance, Carol applied and was accepted into the US Air Force Academy upon graduating High School. Her father, a retired military fighter pilot, begrudgingly allowed her to go. True to form, Carol excelled in her studies and graduated top of her class. She enjoyed rapid career advancement within a short time rose to the rank of Major. Exhibiting exemplar flying skills, superb combat skills and keen intellect, Carol was recruited to participate in a joint mission between the Air Force and the CIA. It was this time that she met and worked with Colonel Nick Fury. The pair formed a strong relationship. Fury eventually recruited Danvers into the CIA. Both have saved each other's lives numerous times. When Carol was captured by the KGB and imprisoned, it was Fury who organized and personally led the strike force that rescued her.

Despite their bound, Fury never revealed to her that he in fact was an operative for Delta Green, though Danvers unknowingly assisted him on various DG backed assignments. It was during such an assignment that Carol took a position with NASA as the security director for Cape Canaveral. During this mission, she was teamed with a special CIA operative, Capt. Marv Ell. Enigmatic and mysterious, Marv Ell was the epitome of the `mysterious warrior'. While it was obvious that he was a highly trained espionage operative, it was unclear what organization he worked for. During this task, Carol forged a close connection to the Captain and wound up assisting him on another mission. Through unreaveled sources, Marv Ell revealed that a terrorist group had experimented on mutants in an attempt to create super soldiers. In the process the created a powerful high tech device called a Psyche Magnetron. The device was highly radioactive and unstable. Alone, it possessed the combined power of 10 A-bombs. The pair's mission was to defuse the device and if possible, to destroy it.

The rogue KGB operative, Colonel Yon Rogg, had defected from Russia and was working for the terrorists. Rogg was a long time foe of Marv Ell and the two had a long and involved history. Not only was Rogg attempting to prevent Marv Ell from destroying the device, he wanted the Captain dead as well. For the two soldiers, this was very personal. Following a series of complex near misses and misadventures, the final confrontation occurred. Learning of her connection to his foe, Rogg kidnapped Carol Danvers. His plan was to use her as bait in his conflict with Marv Ell. Exploiting their relationship, he hoped to gain the upper hand over Marv Ell. During the course of the last battle, Rogg's stray weapons fire destabilized the shielding around the Psyche Magnetron. Carol, Marv Ell and Rogg were all caught in the explosion of the Psyche Magnetron device. The resulting explosion destroyed the base where it was lodge and most of the surrounding terrain for 5 square mile radius. Official sources record that the resulting explosion destroyed the device, also killing Marv Ell and Yon Rogg in the process. Carol Danvers was bombarded by the strange radiation of the device and was left in a coma for 2 years. Upon her awakening, it was discovered that she had been mutated by the accident. Upon examination, it had been found that her physiology and overall genetic structure had been augmented to superhuman levels. Carol now found herself with greater physical abilities than a normal human. What's more, she was able to perceive and manipulate diverse energy wavelengths along the entire EM spectrum. She had become a super human.
