History:

Born in L.A. on the fourth of July to affluent, elitist parents, Jubilation Lee was given a life most children fantasize about. She lived in a large house and was given everything she could ever want. She had money to burn, and burn it she did. Even at a young age she loved the mall. She had an affinity for spending money, one that would follow her throughout her formative years.

Jubilee's parents were very demanding. She didn't walk soon enough, talk good enough, sing well enough, or look nice enough. She was put into gymnastics class when she was four. At the same time she was schooled in violin and piano, neither of which she took too. She was a poor musician, mostly because she didn't want to play. She wanted to be out at the mall, with her friends, not trapped in a room with Helga, the piano teacher.

Her parents came to realize, around the time she was eight, that Jubilee would never achieve their dreams(become a violin virtuoso or a world-class gymnast). They gave up on her. She would never make them proud. She would never reach the goals they set for her. And so, they were to go about their days giving the lost child as little attention as necessary. They would just concentrate on their lives, and put their failure behind them.

Jubilee did not take well to the abandonment. She became a troublesome, pouty child. She did her best to gain their attention, 'accidentally' knocking over expensive vases, coloring the walls, microwaving CDs, but she only gained more scorn. She withdrew from them, as much as they did from her.

So from then on she did everything she could to be accepted by people. She dressed and talked like her friends, even if she thought it was kinda lame. She didn't want to be ostracized. She needed acceptance, and she'd do her damned best to get it. All she wanted was a normal, happy, Barbie Dream House life.

She and her friend, Cynthia Jennifer, took to stealing from the malls. They'd put on their rollerblades and make easy work of mall security. They never got caught, and she wasn't even sure why she did it. There was a rush, a thrill to doing something illegal, but she didn't need the stuff she stole. Sometimes, she'd sneak back into the mall after hours and put back what she'd taken, without telling Cynthia. It wasn't guilt, it wasn't due to a sense of right and wrong. She just didn't want the stuff. Honest. Really. She didn't feel guilty about it. Swear to God.

It was during one of these skate-and-snags when her mutant powers first manifested. She was thirteen, and it had been nearly a year since the incidents of Black Prom. Jubilee made the mistake of taking a wrong turn into a dead-end alley. Two cops had her cornered, when the air in front of her began to sparkle and then the garbage cans near the officers exploded with a brilliant flash of colored light. Jubilee beat feet, safe but forever changed.

Fearful of what she was becoming, she told no one. The officers had no explanation for what happened, but reported that the delinquent had thrown firecrackers at them and escaped. What kind of freak was she? If anyone found out, they would come for her. They would want to take her away from her friends and family. They'd dissect her. And no one would know what became of poor little Jubilation Lee.

On her fourteenth birthday, she learned her potential for destruction. She had gone inside to grab a drink when her uncle came towards her. She loved him. He was the only relative who was ever nice to her, though she had only met him twice before. He was rummaging through a box of fireworks. The plan was to end the birthday celebration with a big Fourth of July Jubilee! Jubilee squeezed in to get at the fridge. Uncle Frank turned to her. Slowly moved towards her. He said things she could barely understand, but she grasped the meaning just as he grasped her arm. She panicked a pyrokinetic blast popped right in front of Uncle Frank's face. He fell down, screaming, the box of fireworks falling on him. Jubilee pressed up against the wall, almost catatonic.

Everyone assumed from the burn marks and the spilled fireworks that somehow one of them had gone off in Uncle Frank's face. When Uncle Frank came to in the hospital he couldn't see. His condition never got better. Jubilee, and Jubilee alone, knew she had blinded her Uncle. She'd done it. She kept her secret to herself. But the power was not so controllable. Whenever she got emotional the fireworks would start. It was only a few weeks before her parents found out.

They didn't know what to do. They didn't want a freak. She wasn't what they ever expected from a daughter. They admonished her to never use her powers, and that was all Jubilee needed to start using them. She'd come to hate her parents, like a teenager often does. She wanted to rebel. So she'd go in the backyard and practice her little fireworks. She'd never use them on people, she was too afraid for that. She blinded Uncle Frank. And all he'd wanted to do was... she shouldn't have hurt him.

Jubilee went out to the mall with her friends in early August, only to return home to find a police car in the driveway. Her parents had been killed in an accident on Mulholland Drive. Jubilee stopped, mid breath, and crawled into herself. The Lee's next door took her in until child services could work out a better arrangement for her. (yes, her parents were the Lee's and so were her neighbors)

Jubilee spent her two weeks with the Lee's in a near comatose state. Idly living each day without much thought to breathing. Then, with the crack of a firework(set off by one of the neighborhood kids), Jubilee snapped out of her funk.

Deciding not to live with the goon squad she took off. She grabbed a few twenties from the Lee's sock drawer and headed to the bus station. She couldn't live on the West Coast anymore. She couldn't spend her life so close to everything that had happened to her. She hopped on a bus and headed east, towards her new life.
