History:

Johnathan grew up in a small town in Missouri, leading a relatively normal, all-american childhood. He even played little league. His family moved to Iowa when he was 11, and John's father gave him a gift to help ease the sadness of leaving behind all his friends. The gift was a black and white camera. The camera wasn't the best, but it sparked John's interest in the hobby which would become his profession. As he grew up he became more and more proficient, and even learned how to develop the pictures he took by himself.

John's teen years were marked with fights; fights between his parents, and fights between him and one or both of his parents. Shortly after he turned 18, he ran off to Chicago with a high school sweetheart, Laura. No more than a month after that, John's mother called, telling him his father had left her, vanishing one night with not a word as to where he was going or how to get in touch with him. John still hasn't seen or heard from his father in the twenty-odd years since.

John went to college and eventually got a job taking pictures for a newspaper, and slowly moved up the ranks. It wasn't long before he started to volunteer to take dangerous assignments, going right into warzones or the criminal to get a photograph and a story. It caused some friction between him and Laura, with him being away and in danger, and they broke up over it several times, but always got back together. One time before going on an assignment in the Persian Gulf, John finally proposed, promising that when he got back and they got married, he'd take on less dangerous assignments. Knowing he couldn't keep it, she refused the promise but accepted the proposal anyway. Unfortunately, upon returning from his trip John was shocked to learn Laura had been killed in a random robbery.

He quit his job after that and spent some time to himself, moving around through the country on some savings he had. Eventually, though he convinced himself that Laura wouldn't have wanted him to give up his passion because of her death, and he went back to it, in a freelance capacity.

Recently he has come to New York to give a few guest lectures at Columbia University's Journalism program. He stayed in the city upon hearing of the Symposium, knowing that, if true, the revelation of mutants means this could be one of the most dramatic periods in history.
