History:

Jetson George Thompson was born October 31, 1987. The only child of Elroy Percival Thompson and Morgan Lynette Harris-Thompson, Jett (as he was known) grew up in a state of domestic bliss unknown to many kids of his generation. His father was graphic artist and model maker who, with Jett’s Mother, owned his own special effects company. Thus Jett grew up surrounded by fabulous the creatures and creations common to the world of movies. This early exposure to movie magic and the like fostered a deep love of Sci-Fi and the fantastic in young Jett. But off all the aliens and Martians, unicorns and dragons, and superheroes and mutants, he loved movie monsters the best. Whether it was the Wolf man, the Creature from the Black Lagoon or Frankenstein’s Monster, he loved them all. It was a child’s dream, to be able to walk different movie stages and sets, to see films shot right in front of you, to be surrounded by the actors and stuntmen who brought your favourite characters to life, it was almost surreal.

Still, many aspects of his life were humdrum and normal. He went to school. He did chores. He played a variety of team sports, starting with T-ball, then soccer, and eventually working his way to football in junior high. All those team sports taught him the benefits of teamwork, how to work well with others and how to coach and lead others in a cooperative environment. He regularly ran errands with his family every weekend. They went shopping every Saturday and regularly attended church every Sunday. He went to Sunday school and Youth group. He sang in the children’s choir. Much to his and everyone’s amazement, he also sang very well. So well that while still a ‘kid’, he was graduated to the young adult choir and in his teen years, was part of the adult choir. His natural musical talent was honed by years of practices, performances and competitions. All in all Jett lead a full, satisfying life. His parents raised him to be a good, god-fearing young man who loved his neighbour and believed in being his best. He had great parents and terrific friends. Always a friendly kid, Jett was very popular in his neighbourhood and at school. And as he grew, so too did his appeal amongst his peers. Jett was always the kid that everyone wanted to hang around. It didn’t hurt that his parents had such terrific jobs and that they weren’t hurting financially. No family threw better holiday parties than the Thompson’s. His parents always wore great costumes no matter the holiday and their house was decorated fabulously. Plus Jett always gave great gifts. When younger, his father would make toy models for Jett and his friends and when he was older, Elroy taught his son the art so that Jett could make his own presents. All in all, Jett’s was a normal happy life.

This changed on his 13th birthday. For that Halloween/Birthday party, he planned to dress as the classic monster, Blackula. His mother had worked hard sewing his costume and his father had designed some nifty fangs for him. His father had done such a wonderful job that Jett went to bed the night before wearing them. He woke the next morning, the dental piece still fitted snugly over his regular teeth. More snug, in fact, than it had fit the night before. His father’s mold was so perfect that the fangs seemed real. Everyone would be impressed. And that’s when the unthinkable happened. Jett saw the “fangs” placed prominently on his bedside table, where his mother had placed them the night before. Horror of horrors, the fangs were real! Jett ran to the bathroom mirror. He pulled and pressed and prodded and checked. These were HIS teeth. These fangs were REAL. Needless to say that suddenly growing fangs, as minor as that seems, was a bit of a surprise to say the least. Many things went through Jett’s mind. The first was that he had actually turned into a vampire. But a few simple tests disproved that theory. No, he wasn’t a vampire. But was had happened. Was this one of those “changes” that his father had alluded to during that awkward father-son talk they had had? Not likely, he didn’t know any adults walking around with fangs for teeth. What could have caused this transformation? There was only one other explanation. As implausible as it was, it had to be the truth. Jett was a mutant! With all the hoopla about the Symposium and that Magneto character and those stunts…there was no other answer. Jett was a mutant.

Not knowing what else to do, Jett decided to hide his change. Dressing up in his costume, he went to school that day as a vampire. To miss school would have brought up too many questions and the idea that he was a mutant was still too much for him to deal with in such a short period of time. So he ignored the fact. He just went through his day as normal, fangs and all. Everyone raved about his outfit, not suspecting the truth. And it wasn’t until lunchtime that his friends noticed that Jett wasn’t ‘wearing’ his fangs anymore. Jett ran to the bathroom and checked his mouth thoroughly. Indeed it was true. His teeth had returned to normal. He no longer had fangs. How could this be, he wondered? But as is human nature, Jett put the episode behind him, believing it to be some freak experience. It wasn’t until 3 months later when he had his second manifestation of his power, did Jett begin to accept the truth. Like it or lump it, he was a mutant. And that was how he spent most of his youth. He would periodically manifest a different trait and would simply wait the change out. They only seemed to last a few hours at most. And over time he learned that with some concentration he could revert the changes to normal. And he also learned that with slightly more concentration he could manifest the changes. Not that he really wanted to do that, but he could, nonetheless. Sure, he couldn’t always get the exact trait that he wanted, but overall his powers worked pretty much when he wanted them to and even when he didn’t want them to.

Life went on pretty much normally for Jett from then on. Sure he was a mutant, but aside from a few embarrassing moments here and there, he was still ‘normal’. And being a mutant, a monster of sorts, was a cool idea on a certain level. He loved monsters and thought that they were neat. Now he was one, more or less. It held a certain romantic attraction for him. It was poetic in a way. The significance of it all was not lost on Jett and it made accepting his condition all the easier. So Jett went on with his life. He graduated Jr. High into High School. He worked on his ever-growing collection of monster “stuff”. He went to church weekly with his family, though he sang less and less on the choir. He played football. He got very good at it. He was the star running back of his High School team. He studied, a bit. He worked out, a lot. He was popular, as always. He had a lot of friends. And finally, he grew up. He finished High School and applied for College. To his family’s joy, he was recruited by Columbia to play with the Lions. He earned himself a nice sports scholarship. He was, for all intents and purposes, happy.

And now Jett is ready to enter into the next phase of his life. He’s a freshman at Columbia, about to start his new school year. He’s a mutant, but that hasn’t been a big deal for him. He has a stable home and a good family. Things are about as near perfect as they can be. And they only look to get better. Or so he hopes.
