History:

Jason Coltrane was born into the large family of Robert and Doris Coltrane on December 18th, 1982. Mr. and Mrs. Coltrane already had four children, but Robert's job had just given him a large enough promotion that they felt they could have another one. Jason was a healthy baby, and the family welcomed him into their arms. Robert had named Jason after his godfather, Jason Corliano, a 'made man' in the Gambino Mafia (hey, even Mafiosi have friends). Corliano was so happy about this that he told his capo (Mafia captain) about it. The day of the christening, Robert (who had done several [legal] favors for the Gambinos in the past) was heartily congratulated by John Gotti himself, and the relationship between the Coltranes and the Gambino family was strengthened.

Jason had an uncle, Robert's half-brother named Garry. Garry was born with some mental retardation and although he could function in society, nevertheless was the butt of jokes by ignorant strangers. Doris Coltrane, though, saw in Garry a wonderful person, and taught all of her kids not to laugh at Garry's disability, but to appreciate his better qualities. Growing up, because Uncle Garry's mind was in many ways like Jason's, Uncle Garry was Jason's best friend.

Eventually things changed. Jason grew into a teenager, and his new friends made fun of Garry when they went over to Jason's house or saw the man in the street. Because he wanted to fit in with his friends, Jason started making fun of Uncle Garry as well. But a single event changed that. Jason and his friends were playing in a cave in the woods outside the Coltranes' upstate New York summer cabin, when the cave collapsed, trapping Jason inside a tiny pocket with no water or light. His other friends all ran to get help, but they only found Garry, who was on vacation with the Coltranes. They hesitated to tell Garry about Jason, since they feared the mentally disabled man might not understand. But Garry realized that the kids were anxious, and that Jason wasn't with them, and quickly got down to the bottom of matters.

Garry had always been big, and worked as a bouncer part-time and as security for events to make a wage. When he got to the collapsed hillside, he started tossing away boulders larger than a normal man could lift, thanks to his huge arms. Eventually they were able to open a shaft to Jason so that he was able to breathe. It was not until digging equipment could be brought in that Jason was rescued. His uncle had saved his life, yet his friends had made fun of the man. Jason stopped making fun of Garry, and the two were inseparable again. His friends, ashamed that their ignorance had nearly cost Jason's life, still hung around Jason, and eventually got to know Garry well, overcoming their own fears.

Jason started learning how to skate after hearing about the first X-Games on ESPN. He begged his dad to let him go see them, and his dad did one better: he booked the Regional Finals for the X-Games and then let Jason in. Jason was astonished at the tricks and stunts these acrobatic daredevils could do, and saved his allowance to buy a skateboard. When he got it, he started doing some of the street tricks he'd seen on ESPN and in person, and thanks to his burgeoning mutant ability, he was good at it! He showed his uncle, who couldn't help but be amazed at the things Jason could do.

When Jason reached high school, he found out about computers. Well, he'd already known about them, and had his own at home, a Pentium PC that he used to do homework, surf the internet, chat with his friends and play games. But now he found out about his high school's computer science lab, where he could learn how to program computers, maintain networks and such. He fell to it with a will, much to the delight of his teachers. The work was easy, and thanks to his mutant ability, Jason was good at it. Jason's own abilities were improving at a remarkable rate, although nothing really out of the ordinary. He was placed into several AP classes, learning subjects on a college level. Jason's skills came into good use at home, when his father's office needed help reorganizing their computer system, which was ten years out of date. Jason picked out reasonable replacement hardware and software, hooked up the network in the office, got them hooked up with the various ticket services for faster response times in selling tickets, and also designed their web site for them.

Jason continued his life, never realizing that he was a mutant. His athletic frame and boyish good looks earned him a number of girlfriends, including a girl he'd been introduced to by his godfather at a large event that had several Mafiosi attending. This girl was the daughter of a sottocapo (sub-lieutenant) in the Gambino family, and she took to Jason very much. But due to his chivalrous nature (instilled into him by his mother), the two never got past some french-kissing in a secluded area of the party and a couple of dates. Still, the girl (whose name is Carlina) does like Jason, and he likes her.

When Jason entered his senior year of high school, he received a present from Uncle Garry, still his best friend after all these years. Garry made quite a bit of money over the years, and he really didn't need to spend any of it. He lived with his brother and his wife in a basement apartment that they didn't charge rent on, and Garry was wise enough to not frivolously spend his earnings. Garry revealed that he'd set up a fund that would pay for Jason's education at Columbia University in Manhattan. Jason realized the love his uncle had for him, and accepted the gift gratefully.

Height: 5'11" Weight: 165 lbs.
Eyes: Brown Hair: Dark brown
Unusual physical characteristics: None
Strength level: Jason possesses the normal human strength of a man his age, height, and build, who engages in heavy regular exercise. Thanks to his abilities, Jason can boost his strength beyond this level, but not consciously.
Known superhuman powers: Jason has the power to boost his own abilities beyond typical performance levels. This boosting is not a conscious effort but rather comes from having his abilities pushed beyond their limits by outside circumstances. This temporary boost lasts up to two hours after the external stimulus is removed then fades slowly, with time. Any of Jason's abilities may be boosted, from physical strength, to agility, to athletic ability. Even metal abilities such as intelligence or mental reflexes may be boosted. Jason may not boost abilities that require outside knowledge, such as knowledge of law, but may boost skills such as his martial arts or hacking. As stated, Jason may not make conscious use of his abilities until he knows they exist. Even then, he cannot willingly push himself beyond perceived limits. These limits may be broken though trickery or through desperation. (He just can't go out and say, "I think I want to be as strong as Colossus," when he knows his abilities only let him lift a couple of tons. But after lifting several tons to save a child, he will realize that his strength will have improved to the point that he can lift that much.) His abilities also can increase in response to competition, in which case his abilities will top off at a level enough to beat those he competes against.
Other abilities: Jason is an extremely skilled computer programmer and hacker. He is a world-class street skater and has competed professionally, winning many regional tournaments. He is a knowledgable student of Karate and a beginner with Thai Kick Boxing. He is also fairly fluent in French and Spanish.
Weapons and paraphernalia: Jason usually rides a skateboard, which he is unusually competent with, thanks to his mutant abilities.
Other notes: Note that Jason's father has Mafia ties, but has not done anything illegal nor does he have any knowledge of criminal activities. He merely performs completely legal favors for important men, and is treated likewise in return.
