When the Dark Avengers attacked the X-Men, Dani made a deal with Hel to be empowered as a Valykrie in order to fight Ares. Now, she must repay the favor, by serving as a Valkyrie while Asgard is under Seige.
This is a fill-in and a tie-in to the Seige event. So it's probably not right to expect much from it. It probably couldn't really either affect the New Mutant title as a whole, or it would have been written by the regular writer, nor Seige, or it would have happened in the main book. So it's a stand-alone story. And... it's not bad. The art is certainly nice. But it does leave me wanting for some impact. Even a fill-in can sometimes do a good job at not feeling like a fill in. This doesn't manage it. It's okay.

Well, that's it for this time, folks. And this will be the last review for the next few months. Why? Currently New Mutants is the only book I buy. However, with issue #12, it is once again going into a crossover. But the New Mutants issues aren't a stand-alone crossover like Seige or Necrosha, with its own story, but rather it is part of the main storyline. So my choices are either to buy every 5th or so part of a story, buy the whole crossover, or give up the title entirely until the crossover is over. The first choice doesn't interest me, and until mutants are actually brought back, I have no interest in the Marvel mutant universe as a whole, that leaves me with only one choice, to give up the book.
