This is our 275th edition. Been a couple weeks since the last set of reviews, since they've been weeks I've not been interested in buying anything. And that trend may well increase as it's looking like one more book will be dropping.
I'm running a little late, so reviews will be short.
This week we have...
Captain Britain and MI:13 #6 - "Hell Comes to Birmingham, Part One"
(Writer: Paul Cornell, Penciler: Leonard
Kirk, Inker: Jesse Delperdang, Colorist:
Brian Reber)
(jump to last issue of Runaways)
MI:13 investigates strange happenings in Birmingham, while Blade and Spitfire clash over vampireness vs. vampire-huntingness.
It's a fairly enjoyable piece, although it does suffer from the sort of pacing and scene transition oddities that has been common for the title. It's perhaps not as entertaining as some of the previous issues, but it has a good ending and I'm willing to name it my Pick of the Week.

Tatiana's been shot, and in Bobby Soul must make a difficult
choice about whether to use his powers to help everybody.
I've always felt like I'm sort of just on the verge of dropping
this. It still doesn't feel all that much like the original NYX,
and so far I haven't gotten too into the characters. And yet,
this is not the book I'm dropping this week. It still entertains
me. I don't think I'd be interested in following it as an ongoing
series (as I would have the original NYX, if it came out in a timely
fashion), but I like it enough that I want to find out where this
particular story is going.

The X-Men try to take down Empath and find out more about the
Hellfire Cult, and Pixie decides to join in.
By process of elimination it should be pretty obvious that
this is the book I've decided to drop. It's not horrible, but
it's just not doing anything for me. Although Pixie is written
very slightly better, she's still only a shadow of the character
I enjoyed in New X-Men, and that goes for a lot of the characters
that appear. Greg Land's art doesn't help matters, as it's
virtually impossible to recognize anybody unless they're in costume
or an obvious mutant, because everybody looks like plastic porn
stars or other celebrities, and not always even the same ones from
panel to panel.
Maybe I'll try again if they change either the artist or writing
team, or if I hear of a particular plot-line that interests me,
but I'm done for now.

Well, that's it for this week folks. Next week, according to the
shipping list, there's just one book, Runaways (vol 3) #3.
See you next time...
