This is our 252nd edition. Three books this week. Surprisingly enough that's become a pretty big week for me. I'm also running late so I'll try and make these quick.
This week we have...
Avengers: The Initiative #10 - "Killed In Action, Part 3 of 4: Confirmed
Kills" (Writers: Dan Slott &
Christos N. Gage, Artist: Stefano Caselli,
Color Art: Daniele Rudoni)
(jump to last issue)
KIA continues his rampage, and while the Initiative struggles to face the threat, Cloud 9 is sent on a mission to get what may be needed to stop him.
The cover boldly proclaims that 'one will die', but it's probably not terribly surprising that the one who does isn't going to be missed that much. Which sort of means that it's an arc about an unstoppable killing machine who only manages to kill the more expendable characters to the plot, which always feels a little hollow to me.
However, the issue does contain the best moment I read this week (a little bonding moment between Taskmaster and Ant-Man), so that rises the score a little.

The crew of Serenity (sometime before the events of the movie and
even the last comic miniseries), go on another big heist, only to
learn that the payoff isn't quite what they expected.
The last mini left me vaguely disappointed, and I was really on
the fence about whether I'd pick up this one. The problem was that
the comic never seemed to have quite the same vibe to it as the series,
the dialog wasn't as witty and the characters didn't feel quite like
themselves.
Is this one better? Slightly. Or, at least, it's better than my
memories of the original, since I didn't feel inspired to go and
reread things. There still isn't much in the way of great funny lines,
but at least the basic plot seems more enjoyable, managing some good
action scenes. However, it still isn't anywhere near as good as even
the weakest episode of the series. We'll have to see how it does with
the rest of the series.

Madrox is beginning to feel everything come apart, after losing Rahne
and Layla. Now one more of his team is ready to leave, just as an
old enemy decides to pay a call.
I'll tentatively make this one my Pick of the Week, although it's not
dramatically better than any of the others. It's pretty much a setup
issue, but I do like the character they're using for the villain of
the arc, and it does manage to have a few nice character moments.

Well, that's it for this week folks. Next week, according to the
shipping list, it's another skip week. Nothing I'm interested in
buying.
See you next time...
