This is our 226th edition, with just two books. There were supposed to be three, but by the time I got to the comic store, Deadpool/GLI Summer Fun Spectacular was apparently sold out. So, I went without. Speaking of the time I got to the comic store, this column is running a little late, obviously. Strained a back muscle and so really couldn't get out to the store on Wednesday. But I'm better now. Still, I'll probably be a little brief on reviews today.
This week we have...
Ultimate X-Men #84 - "Sentinels, Part 1 of 5" (Writer: Robert Kirkman,
Pencils: Yanick Paquette, Inks: Serge Lapointe,
Colors: Stephane Peru)
Now that Bishop has assembled his team, he wants them to intervene in a situation he doesn't recall. Sentinels have been exterminating mutants, and some mutants are ready to strike back.
There are a couple of annoying glitches in the story. One minor one is where Psylocke refers to a Muir Island situation with Mojo. I believe it should be a Genosha Island situation, since to my knowledge Mojo had no connection to Muir.
More glaringly, after deciding to intervene in a situation causing many mutant deaths, Bishop's team of X-Men... stops to do a full costume change (including presumably acquiring one for their newest member nobody else knew was coming). I can understand the need to make a dramatic entrance, but when people are dying and you can teleport there instantly, there's just no excuse to go change before battle. (If you have to prep a jet for flight or something anyway, there's more leeway, of course)
Otherwise, the same rules apply as has for much of Kirkman's run - it's fine, some interesting stuff and okay character work, but nothing terribly exciting yet.
Good to see Yanick Paquette back on art, he does a good job here.

Madrox continues to deal with the fall-out of his tryst with Siryn
and Monet, X-Factor takes on a new case, and the Isolationist comes
to town.
Much improvement here over the last arc. Here we have an issue in
which there's not a whole lot of 'action', and most of the scenes are
small scenes with a few characters, advancing ongoing plots slowly,
with a few big revelations and a few hints towards the future... and I
enjoyed it much more. Also contributing to the improvement is Pablo
Raimondi's return to art.
I'm making this issue my Pick of the Week.
The Endangered Species backup didn't really make much of an impression
on me, and so I'm not going to comment on it.

Well, that's it for this week folks. Next week, according to the
shipping list, there'll be four books. There's Birds of Prey #108, Avengers:
The Initiative #4, New X-Men #40, and World War Hulk: X-Men #2.
See you next week...
